Overview & Entrance Location
The Battle for Mount Hyjal (commonly called Hyjal Summit) is one of the two core Tier 6 raids introduced in Phase 3 of WoW TBC Classic Anniversary. Set inside the historical timeline of the Third War, your 25-man raid joins forces with Lady Jaina Proudmoore's Alliance forces and Thrall's Horde encampment to defend the World Tree, Nordrassil, against the Burning Legion.
Hyjal Summit is located within the Caverns of Time in eastern Tanaris (/way 65.0 50.0). Take the flight path to Gadgetzan, ride south-east to the Caverns of Time entrance, and speak to the bronze drake custodian to fly down to the main chamber. The instance portal is located directly to the north-east inside the Caverns.
Unlike traditional dungeons with static packs of enemies, Mount Hyjal features a unique wave-based defense mechanic. Before each of the first four bosses, players must repel 8 distinct waves of Burning Legion demons and undead. Managing mana, crowd control, and positioning around friendly NPC leaders is crucial to clearing each stage without resetting.
The Vials of Eternity Attunement Quest Chain
To cross the instance portal into Mount Hyjal, every raid member must complete the iconic attunement questline involving the preservation of Illidan's sacred Well of Eternity waters.
Step-by-Step Attunement Walkthrough
- Prerequisite: Reach Level 70 and complete the Caverns of Time introductory quests (To The Master's Lair and the Old Hillsbrad Foothills / Black Morass completions).
- Pick Up The Quest: Speak with Soridormi (the Prime Consort of Nozdormu) or her projection inside the Caverns of Time to accept The Vials of Eternity.
- Vial 1 - Serpentshrine Cavern: Slay Lady Vashj in Serpentshrine Cavern (Coilfang Reservoir). Loot the Remnants of Vashj's Vial from her corpse.
- Vial 2 - The Eye (Tempest Keep): Defeat Kael'thas Sunstrider in Tempest Keep. Loot the Remnants of Kael'thas's Vial.
- Turn-In: Return both vials to Soridormi in Caverns of Time. You will be permanently flagged for Mount Hyjal entry and rewarded with your choice of a Band of Eternity reputation ring.
Completing this attunement unlocks the starting Friendly tier of the Band of Eternity ring. As your raid farms Mount Hyjal trash and bosses, your reputation increases toward Exalted, unlocking significantly upgraded versions tailored for tanks, physical DPS, casters, and healers.
Trash Waves Strategy & NPC Allies
Each of the first four bosses is preceded by 8 waves of aggressive Legion enemies. Waves arrive on an approximate 2-minute timer; if your raid clears a wave early, you receive precious seconds of downtime to drink and resurrect fallen allies.
During the Alliance camp (Bosses 1 & 2), Lady Jaina Proudmoore provides powerful Blizzard and Water Elemental support. During the Horde camp (Bosses 3 & 4), Thrall tanks with devastating chain lightning. If Jaina or Thrall dies, or if your entire raid wipes, all 8 waves reset immediately to Wave 1!
High-Priority Trash Targets
- Shadowy Necromancers: Must be interrupted and nuked immediately. They cast deadly Shadow Bolts and continually summon skeleton adds. Shackle Undead and Counterspell are mandatory.
- Gargoyles: Airborne pests that shoot heavy shadow damage. Melee cannot attack them until ranged DPS and Hunter taunts bring them into range or nuke them down.
- Frost Wyrms: Cast deep freeze debuffs on ground targets. Hunters and Warlocks must burst them down swiftly with focused ranged firepower.
- Giant Abominations: Heavy physical damage. Main tanks must grab them promptly to prevent them from one-shotting Alliance Footmen or cloth casters.
- Banshees: Cast single-target Silences and Anti-Magic Shells. Dispel their curses immediately to prevent raid-wide debuff decay.
All 5 Boss Encounters Breakdown
Detailed mechanics and execution instructions for every encounter leading up to the final confrontation at the World Tree.
1. Rage Winterchill
Alliance EncampmentRage Winterchill is a Lich encounter focused on positioning and quick reactions to burst frost magic. He triggers after clearing Wave 8 in the Alliance Base.
- Icebolt: Random target direct hit that encases them in ice, dealing massive frost damage. Requires immediate healer attention.
- Death & Decay: Deals 15% of maximum HP per second to anyone inside the red circle. Move immediately!
- Frost Nova: Freezes melee; priests and paladins must dispel roots instantly. Spread 10 yards apart.
2. Anetheron
Alliance EncampmentA dreadlord master of demonic sleep and infernal summons. Defeating him concludes the defense of the Alliance base.
- Carrion Swarm: Wide cone attack dealing 5,000 shadow damage and reducing healing received by 75% for 15 seconds. Keep the raid spread in a broad arc behind the boss.
- Inferno: Drops a meteor that stuns a player and spawns a fiery Towering Infernal. An Off-Tank must pick it up immediately while ranged DPS burns it down.
- Sleep: Puts up to 3 random players to sleep for 10 seconds. Dispel with Tremor Totems or Priests.
3. Kaz'rogal
Horde EncampmentA massive Doomguard brute that serves as a strict raid-wide mana burn and DPS race. Fought alongside Thrall in the Horde encampment.
- Mark of Kaz'rogal: Drains 600 mana per second for 5 seconds on all mana users. If a player hits 0 mana while marked, they explode for 11,000 shadow damage to everyone nearby!
- Mana Discipline: All mana users must bring multiple Super Mana Potions and Demonic / Dark Runes. Never let your mana drop below 3,000.
- War Stomp: Stuns all melee within 15 yards for 5 seconds and resets his attack swing timer.
4. Azgalor
Horde EncampmentA ferocious Pit Lord who drops the coveted Tier 6 Glove Tokens. Requires precise doom-management and silence awareness.
- Doom: Cast on a random player. After 20 seconds, the target dies instantly and spawns a Lesser Doomguard add. The afflicted player must run to Thrall and the designated Off-Tank.
- Rain of Fire: Falling flame patches that apply a stacking fire DoT. Anyone standing in it must move instantly.
- Howl of Azgalor: An unavoidable 5-second raid-wide silence. Healers must pre-cast HoTs and shields on tanks before every howl.
Archimonde Boss Guide (Final Boss)
The supreme commander of the Burning Legion, Archimonde the Defiler, waits at the base of Nordrassil. He is widely regarded as one of the most mechanically unforgiving encounters in The Burning Crusade Classic. Any single raid death empowers Archimonde via Soul Charge, which can easily wipe the entire raid within seconds.
Before pulling Archimonde, every single raid member must talk to Tyrande Whisperwind at the grove entrance to receive the item Tears of Elune. Drag this item directly to your primary hotbar! When Archimonde launches you hundreds of feet into the air with Air Burst, you must activate the Tears of Elune ~2 seconds before landing to obtain Slow Fall and prevent 100% fatal fall damage.
Archimonde Core Mechanics
- Air Burst: Knocks a player and anyone within 8 yards high into the sky. Use Tears of Elune right before landing. Stay spread 8 yards apart at all times.
- Grip of the Legion: Deals 2,500 shadow damage every 2 seconds for 10 seconds. Dispel priority #1 for Priests and Paladins.
- Doomfire: Tracking trails of fire that pursue random raid members. Never run through flames; kite them away from raid groupings.
- Soul Charges (Wipe Mechanic): Any player death immediately triggers a devastating raid debuff based on class. No deaths allowed!
Winning Strategy: 100% to 10%
Keep Archimonde tanked near the water or hill clearing with two designated tanks ready for Fear mechanics (Tremor Totems or Fear Ward are required). When Archimonde reaches 10% health, the spirits of the forest and ancient Wisps swarm the Defiler, making the entire raid immune to all damage for the final burn phase to victory!

Mount Hyjal Frequently Asked Questions
You must complete "The Vials of Eternity" quest from Soridormi in Caverns of Time. This requires defeating Lady Vashj in Serpentshrine Cavern for the Remnants of Vashj's Vial, and Kael'thas Sunstrider in The Eye (Tempest Keep) for the Remnants of Kael'thas's Vial.
There are exactly 8 trash waves before each of the first four bosses (Rage Winterchill, Anetheron, Kaz'rogal, and Azgalor). The final boss, Archimonde, has no trash waves leading directly to him.
Speak to Tyrande Whisperwind before pulling Archimonde to obtain the Tears of Elune. Put it on your keybind bar. When Archimonde casts Air Burst and knocks you skyward, activate the item roughly 2 seconds before reaching the ground to gain Slow Fall and negate all falling damage.
Mount Hyjal drops Tier 6 Gloves (from Azgalor) and Tier 6 Helms (from Archimonde). The remaining three armor slots (Chest, Shoulders, Legs) drop inside Black Temple.
If your entire raid wipes, or if the encampment leader (Jaina Proudmoore or Thrall) is slain by demons during the defense, the wave sequence resets back to Wave 1 and you must start that boss's trash waves over again.
